Nick Coffey

Director

Nick is a specialist in the management and negotiation of insurance claims representing Assureds, with extensive International experience in the energy and utility industries and its related insurance markets. Nick is involved in a variety of cases at any one time, ranging from on-going consultancy work for clients including multinational organisations such as gas and power utilities, IOCs, NOCs, Independent E&P and refining companies, to one off advisory assignments providing independent advice on claim strategy and outcomes. He has been lead advisor to Assureds on many of the largest and most complex insurance claims, including Gryphon FPSO, Super Storm Sandy for multinational utility, Banff FPSO, P-36, Ekofisk 2-4W, Piper Alpha, Toulouse Fertiliser Plant Explosion, Buncefield Oil Depot Explosion, La Mede Refinery Explosion.

Currently, Nick is leading the management of a number of high value insurance claims including advice on strategy, coverage interpretation, management and co-ordination of resources, contractual negotiations, liaison with loss adjusters, brokers, lawyers and insurers. The claims under management by INDECS on average exceed USD2.5 billion.

Additionally, Nick provides consultancy in relation to insurance management function, contract negotiation for risk allocation, insurance philosophy, insurance market practice and insurance programme benchmarking to Corporations, Governments, Regulators and Lawyers.

Nick graduated in 1991 from the University of London and is a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Barry Williams

Director

Barry is a founder director of INDECS, and is a specialist in the provision of insurance and risk management advice to lenders, borrowers and government bodies in relation to Structured Finance projects worldwide, where he has a strong reputation for providing high quality advice across a broad range of industries. Barry is currently advising Lenders on transactions with a total value in excess of US$ 100 billion including renewable and conventional power, energy, infrastructure and utilities projects. Barry also provides bespoke consultancy services in relation to risk analysis, structures and solutions for clients worldwide, notably in relation to the feasibility, formation and optimisation of captives.

Prior to joining INDECS, Barry was closely involved in the establishment and management of a number of successful mutual insurance companies.

Barry graduated in 1992 from Cambridge University with a First Class honours degree in Mathematics and Management Studies. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner, and has completed the OIL Technical Accreditation.

Kit Hollis

Director

His primary focus is the management and resolution of large and complex claims for a number of clients operating in multiple jurisdictions.

With particular expertise in conventional offshore operations and construction projects, Kit is currently managing a number of claims for clients in the renewable space.

Kit is recognised for being able to resolve difficult claims. His approach is to ensure that all parties understand what information and work streams are required to affect this, and then to guide the client to a strategy to ensure the claim moves forward. In addition to his claims practice, Kit advises clients on insurance solutions, contractual risk allocation, selection of brokers and captive utilisation.

Prior to INDECS, Kit worked in both underwriting and claims functions in the London insurance market.

Kit holds a degree in Biomedical Chemistry from the University of Warwick.

Felipe Alviar-Baquero MBE

Director

Felipe is a leading lenders insurance advisor who has worked in some of the largest project finance transactions in the world advising lenders (including ECAs, DFI and commercial lenders), governmental organisations and corporates. Felipe co-leads the project finance team, which is currently advising on transactions with a total value in excess of $ 100 billion including power, energy, infrastructure, utilities and renewable projects. Felipe provides training to organisations worldwide on insurance related matters.

Felipe is a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. Prior to joining INDECS, he worked at Slaughter and May and Latham & Watkins, specialising in international project finance. His strong legal background enables him to provide high quality advice on the insurance and indemnity provisions on project agreements, and on the insurance provisions of finance and security documentation.

Felipe speaks Spanish fluently. He holds a First Class Honours degree in Law and Business Administration from the University of Kent and a Distinction in the B.C.L from Oxford University.
Felipe is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. Felipe is also a member of the board of trustees of the charity Children Change Colombia.

Benjamin Gibbs

Director

Benjamin advises clients on both onshore and offshore claims. As well as traditional E&P losses, Benjamin is currently advising on a range of claims in the renewable space and leads the management of a number of subsea cable claims in Europe and North America.

Prior to joining INDECS, Benjamin worked as an average adjuster at a large international firm of adjusters, providing advice to ship owners on policy liability, facilitating claims presentation and adjusting marine claims (including general average). He also spent a period providing insurance consultancy services to a large ship owning company in the Middle East.

Benjamin graduated in 2007 from Durham University with a degree in Economics and is a qualified Senior Associate of the Association of Average Adjusters.

Julie MacKenzie

Senior Consultant

Julie predominantly advises banks and other financiers on the technical and contractual insurance aspects of structured finance deals as part of our Project Finance team. Julie has more than 20 years of experience within the structured finance sector including working directly for both central and local Government in PFI / PPP strategy and procurement and also within SPV project companies. Her experience in both the private and public sector arena mean that she is well placed to understand issues faced by clients from a number of different perspectives.

Julie has experience across a wide range of sectors including wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, BESS and other renewables, gas power, LNG, water treatment, and other infrastructure projects such as roads, education and medical. She has worked on projects in many territories across the world including Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining INDECS, Julie worked at Marsh providing insurance programme design and placement services across construction and operational risks. Julie also managed the insurance aspects of a number of projects through development to financial close.

Julie has a degree in Accounting and Finance, is a qualified accountant and a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA).

Chris Cook

Senior Consultant

Chris joined INDECS as a Senior Consultant in 2021 to add extensive experience and knowledge to our team providing specialist insurance advice to lenders on structured finance projects.

Prior to joining INDECS, Chris was responsible for leading the structured finance team at JLT, and subsequently Marsh, providing insurance consultancy advice to lenders and other financial institutions on projects around the world.

Chris has worked in the insurance industry since 1983, and has considerable experience providing advice to lenders on conventional and renewable power, transportation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, real estate, accommodation, waste, energy, industrial, water and telecommunication projects around the world within the Structured Finance sector.

Joe Brennan

Senior Consultant

Joe is a risk management and finance specialist with 15 years of experience in the international insurance and reinsurance sector.

During his career, Joe has led the design and implementation of risk management strategies for operations and projects with complex risk profiles. Joe believes that risk allocation models involving multiple stakeholders (contractors, partners, government entities etc.) should be developed and shaped to deliver long term value.

Joe is well versed in the insurance requirements for oil and gas operations in many geographies but specialises in Africa, the Middle East and the US, he is also very familiar with the various fiscal regimes utilised in these territories.

Joe has successfully interacted with external regulatory, fiscal and industry groups in multiple jurisdictions to advise on and promote group or business position. 

Prior to joining INDECS, Joe worked for BP in both the UK and the US where he has proven track record in identifying, developing and implementing appropriate insurance risk financing approaches that provide value to insurance buyers.

Alistair Brown

Alistair Brown

Senior Consultant

Having spent the first decade of his career as a forensic accountant Alistair moved into the insurance industry and has subsequently dedicated most of his time to actively managing and negotiating claims on behalf of the industry. He has represented the London market on many of the largest claims to be presented over the past couple of decades.

This includes having key decision-making roles in the following significant upstream energy losses; claims from hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma in the GoM in 2005, the Deepwater Horizon loss in 2010, the Gryphon FPSO loss in 2011, the Abkatun A platform explosion in Mexico in 2015, the Big Foot TLP accident in 2015 and Tullow Oil’s FPSO loss off Ghana in 2016.

Alistair has also had significant involvement on many large downstream losses including a number of the losses from US hurricanes, the Tesoro explosion in 2010, PKN in the Czech Republic in 2015, the Amuay tank farm explosion in Venezuela in 2012, the YPF explosion in Argentina in 2013 and the Papua New Guinea LNG loss from the earthquake in 2018.

He has held positions of responsibility within both insurance and reinsurance companies including heading up claims and operations and sitting on a number of management and reserving committees.

Alistair’s experience working for insurers coupled with his forensic accounting background puts him in a unique position to advise INDECS clients on the management and successful resolution of claims.

Alistair graduated in 1995 with a BSC in Economics from Loughborough University and is a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Thomas Hillary

Senior Consultant

Tom is a risk management specialist with 20years of experience in the global risk management  and insurance industry.

 He has worked with multiple industry sectors including Automotive, Conventional and Sustainable Energy, Utilities, Mining, Pharmaceuticals and Life Science. Tom has worked on both the broker and client side using his strategic vision, and innovative approach to help organisations achieve  insurance and risk management goals.

Most recently Tom was head of Insurance and Risk Management at the multinational automotive manufacturer of luxury sports cars and electric vehicles, Group Lotus.

Tom has a BSc degree in Physiological Sciences from Newcastle University and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute

Aimee Jackson

Senior Consultant

Aimee has over 18 years of experience in the London Market handling complex insurance claims.   She has joint specialisms in onshore & offshore energy claims and hull & machinery and marine liability claims and has led numerous challenging claims to amicable conclusion on behalf of the market.  Aimee has worked with clients all around the world, with a focus on Asian and North American jurisdictions.

 In addition to her technical expertise, Aimee brings the insurer perspective to INDECS and provides insight into the mechanisms of the London Market, decision making process and priorities of insurers.  

 Aimee has a degree in physics and Astrophysics from Leicester University and is an Associate of the Association of Average Adjusters.

Paul King

Paul King

Senior Consultant

Paul has extensive International experience in the energy insurance industry and with its insurance mutuals. He specialises in providing insurance assistance to companies with and without their own insurance departments. Paul is involved in a variety of cases at any one time, ranging from on-going consultancy work for established clients to specific ad-hoc assignments for clients worldwide.

Paul has managed a number of high value projects – both on and offshore, providing advice on risk management, insurance purchasing strategy, contractual reviews and negotiations, invitations to tender for broker and insurer selection, and advice post policy placement (including claims preparation and claims advocacy).

Additionally, Paul has provided consultancy to lenders, financing such projects.

He is regularly involved in supporting clients who wish to tender their insurance programmes or service providers including: process management; development of underwriting information; issuance of Invitation to Tender documents; hosting presentations; detailed analysis and appointment.

Paul was previously the Group Insurance Manager for Enterprise Oil PLC and held a senior position within the insurance and risk management department of Mobil.

Paul graduated in 1982 from the University of Kent, is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner, has complete

Mark Williams

Senior Consultant

Mark’s main focus at INDECS is bringing a wealth of experience to bear in providing strategic claims advice to our clients, particularly in the preparation of high value and complex business interruption claims including onshore and offshore Loss of Production Income and Revenue claims.

His long involvement in the insurance claims and commercial disputes arenas has led to him providing litigation support and he has been engaged as an Expert Witness in the UK and US courts.

After beginning his insurance industry career in 1983 as a loss adjuster, Mark moved to Deloitte & Touche in 2000, providing claims consulting services on major property and business interruption losses to UK and overseas clients in the oil and gas, manufacturing, energy and other sectors. Since joining INDECS, he has helped to resolve many high value and complex Property Damage and Business Interruption claims in the offshore and onshore energy, power, mining and manufacturing industries.

Mark is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. He has successfully completed the OIL accreditation programme.

Simon Ford

Senior Consultant

Simon is part of our Claims Team, where he advises clients on management, negotiation and successful resolution for their complex energy claims.

With over 30 years’ experience in claims, Simon was previously an upstream energy claims broker. He has handled a wide range of complex placement claims for construction, operational, political violence, onshore and offshore seismic risks, as well as claims outside the energy sector. He has international experience, largely for Asia, Europe and Africa.

Hannah Powell

Consultant

Hannah is involved in claims in both the renewable and traditional E&P sector.

Prior to joining INDECS, Hannah worked as a claims broker in the London market where she gained experience in power, construction and renewable energy claims. Hannah also has experience as a site engineer on a London based engineering project.

Hannah graduated from the University of Durham with an MEng in Civil Engineering. Hannah holds the CII Certificate in Insurance and is currently studying towards becoming an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Derek Tarr

Consultant

Derek joined INDECS from an international broker where he provided insurance advisory services to financing parties in Project Finance deals since 2007. He has considerable experience of Project Finance and Public Private Partnerships (PPP) across many territories, with focus on infrastructure, health, education and accommodation projects worldwide. Derek has also provided ongoing insurance support services to the operation monitoring department of a Development Finance Institution which invests into the developing and transition economies worldwide. Prior to his work in the lender advisory space, Derek delivered insurance consultancy services for UK Government sector clients, focusing upon PPP & PFI projects across all sectors, but with a particular focus in education, waste management and the renewable energy sectors. He also developed considerable experience in insurance issues affecting the UK rail industry, through advisory work undertaken for the Office of Rail Regulation and its predecessor, the Strategic Rail Authority. Derek is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. He has also been a member of the Representatives Committee for the Insurance Institute of London.

Bianca Bilobrk

Consultant

Bianca is a claims consultant advising clients on insurance claim management strategies. Since joining INDECS, she has gained experience on high value and complex Property Damage, Business Interruption and DSU losses.

Bianca assists clients with offshore and onshore claims, encompassing energy, power, and renewables losses. She specialises in the preparation of underlying loss models and expert reports for construction and operational insurance claims.

Her work involves detailed financial and data analysis, quantification of losses, co-ordinating information flows and the presentation of final claim documentation to loss adjusters and insurers.

Prior to joining INDECS, Bianca completed her auditing training contract with KPMG and delivered forensic consultancy services in South Africa and London specialising in fraud and financial investigations, dispute advisory services and fraud risk management services.

David Coupar

Consultant

David advises clients on both onshore and offshore claims.

David has worked in the energy industry for over fifteen years.  He began his career working as a cost engineer within the project controls department for a leading EPC company, where he worked on a project to build a gas plant in Saudi Arabia.

He later became a petroleum economist and worked for over eleven years at a specialist consulting company within the upstream sector.  As a consultant, David developed and analysed economic and financial models for clients, and has a strong knowledge of upstream global fiscal regimes and strategic planning.  David has experience working closely with international energy companies of all sizes, having worked on client assignments in the UK, US, Canada, and Malaysia.

David graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in International Business.

Adam Maunder

Consultant

Adam joined the team in 2021 and is working on Project Finance assignments worldwide.

He has advised, as part of the project finance team, on numerous non-recourse finance projects in multiple sectors including renewables, utilities, water, data centres and infrastructure. Adam is currently working on some of the largest projects, in their respective sectors, across the Gulf region, Europe and the US.

Adam comes from a legal background and has extensive experience providing advice (from an insurance perspective) in relation to the drafting and negotiations of project agreements and finance agreements.

Prior to joining INDECS, Adam worked at the Rugby Football Union (RFU) in the Legal & Governance team, where his focus was ensuring good governance practice at all levels of the organisation as well as supporting the legal function, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.

He holds a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP University London, a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics from the University of York and is currently studying to obtain his advanced diploma and become an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Adam Waterston

Consultant

Adam has worked in the insurance industry as a broker and a consultant since 2011. He joined INDECS in 2023 where his principal role within the Project Finance team has involved advising lenders on the insurance requirements of non – recourse financed projects. His portfolio includes advising on risks in very mature insurance markets but increasingly in emerging regions. He has a particular interest in renewable energy projects and the energy transition generally but has experience in conventional power and infrastructure too where he utilises his experience to deliver commercially sensible yet bankable solutions for lenders.

 

Prior to joining the company Adam has worked at some of the world’s top tier insurance brokers where he specialised in the design, placement, and management of insurance programmes for offshore wind, and submarine power interconnector projects. His clients included joint ventures concerned with standalone projects as well as multinational energy companies owning and operating significant global portfolios. His experience includes working with offshore contractors in turnkey as well as owner-controlled projects, and he is well versed in the complexities and challenges that exist in the marine sector. He also has experience broking trade credit and political risks with a focus on commodities transactions both on a whole turnover and transaction by transaction basis.

 

Adam studied History at the University of Edinburgh and subsequently completed his Graduated Diploma in Law at Northumbria University. He has been an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute since 2015.

Sana Tirmizey

Consultant

Sana is a Consultant in the Project Finance team which performs the role of lenders’ insurance adviser for project finance transactions in energy, utilities and infrastructure projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Prior to joining INDECS, Sana worked as a project finance lawyer in one of the top-ranked corporate law firms in Pakistan, and advised project companies, sponsors, and lenders on the full project lifecycle of large-scale renewable and conventional energy projects, as well as on complex legal disputes arising out of construction and operation of the projects.

Sana speaks Urdu fluently. She holds an LLB from the University of Durham (UK) and is called to the Bar of Lincoln’s Inn as an overseas member. In addition, Sana also holds a Master of Laws from Columbia University (USA), where she was awarded the Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar recognition for academic achievement. She is currently working towards becoming an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Nicolas Canon

Consultant

Nicolas principal role is to provide support on our Project Finance assignments worldwide.

Nicolas has strong experience of providing insurance consultancy services for lenders in power, renewables, utilities, energy and infrastructure projects around the world, especially in Latin America.

Nicolas is a qualified Colombian lawyer. He studied Law at Los Andes University and obtained a minor degree in Business Administration from the same university. Additionally, he holds a Masters Degree in Law (LL.M.) with a specialism in Environmental and Energy Law from University College London. He also holds a Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Prior to joining INDECS, Nicolas worked for the Colombian Government in subjects related to Administrative and Competition Law. He also had experience in the practice of Environmental Law in Colombia.

Nicolas speaks Spanish and French fluently.

Jasmine Emson

Consultant

Jasmine joined the claims team in 2023 and provides support and advice to clients on claims and insurance consultancy in both the sustainable and conventional energy sectors. Jasmine has experience advising owners and contractors on claims in the UK, Europe, USA, Australia and Africa on a variety of onshore and offshore claims. Jasmine has also advised clients in the sustainable energy sector with regards to insurance consultancy assignments, particularly with regards to broker and policy selection.

Jasmine graduated from the University of Manchester with a 2:1 in Spanish, Business and Management. Prior to joining INDECS, Jasmine taught English in Valencia, Spain in order to develop her language skills further.

Jasmine has a Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute and is currently working towards becoming an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Maria Camila Villa-Roel

Consultant

Maria Camila is a Consultant in the Project Finance team

Before joining INDECS, Maria Camila led the Private Equity, M&A, and Structured Finance practice at Marsh Colombia, where she provided Transactional Risk and Lenders’ Insurance Advisory services for both Colombia and the broader Latin America and Caribbean region.

Maria Camila brings experience in providing insurance consultancy services for lenders in renewable energy, power, and infrastructure projects across Latin America.

Prior to her time at Marsh, she worked as an external legal consultant for Colombia’s largest insurer, specialising in personal injury, claims advisory and indemnity negotiation.

Caroline Woolley

Consultant

Caroline specialises in the preparation of business interruption claims. She has been in the risk and insurance industry for almost 30 years and is well known as a leading business interruption expert. She has worked most of that time in claims, working on behalf of both Insurers and Insureds. She also works with law firms as an expert witness in quantum in commercial disputes and international arbitration. Her experience spans all areas of investigative accounting including business interruption (damage and non-damage), loss of profits, increased costs, contract disputes, loss of earnings, subrogation, inventory, product recall, supply chain, delay in start up, liability, financial motive, fraud and fidelity. She has worked on claims and special projects across the world in Europe, North America, Middle East and AsiaPac. She is based in the UK and previously worked out of Sydney.

Prior to joining INDECS she was Director and Investigative Accounting Group Practice leader at Meaden & Moore UK. She was previously a leader in the Forensic Accounting and Claims Services team (FACS), EMEA property practice leader and Global head of the Business Interruption centre of excellence for Marsh. She began her career at Campos &Stratis/RGL (now Baker Tilly) and worked for MDD.

Caroline has a degree in Business Studies from the University of Portsmouth and is a Chartered Accountant.

Persefoni Papadimitriou

Consultant

Persefoni recently joined the claims team and provides support and advice to clients on claims in both the sustainable and conventional energy sectors. Prior to joining INDECS, she gained experience in both private practice and in-house roles, working as legal counsel for a major insurer in London and in the disputes department of a top-tier law firm in Athens. Her strong legal background enables her to provide high quality advice on coverage issues and policy interpretation.

Persefoni is a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and a Greek qualified lawyer. She speaks Greek fluently and holds a Law degree from Athens Law School, as well as an LLM in International Business Law from Queen Mary University of London, where she graduated with Distinction.

Sean Manhire

Sean joined the claims team in 2024 as an Assistant Consultant and provides support and advice to clients on claims in both the renewable and E&P sectors.

Sean has experience working on claims in the UK, Europe & North America.

Prior to joining INDECS, Sean worked on construction projects in the UK. Sean graduated in 2022 from Cardiff University with a 2:1 in Civil Engineering.

He has a Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute and is currently working towards becoming an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Kieran Holder

Assistant Consultant

Kieran is a member of the project finance team.

Kieran joined INDECS in January 2024 as an Assistant Consultant within the Project Finance team. Since then, he has gained valuable experience in providing insurance and risk advisory services to lenders on transactions spanning a range of sectors worldwide, including renewable energy, infrastructure, education, data centres, healthcare and utilities. Kieran has also advised on transactions spanning varying financing structures, including non-recourse financings, bond issues and revolving credit facilities.

Kieran graduated with a BA in History from the University of Cambridge in 2023, and holds the Level 3 Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is currently working towards becoming an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Milly Staunton

Milly is a member of the project finance team.

Milly graduated from The University of Aberdeen with a degree in Law, with a particular focus on the energy sector.

Prior to joining INDECS, Milly gained experience across various legal fields and most recently lead a compliance function, ensuring adherence to insurance policies.

She is currently working towards becoming a member of the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Ella Humphreys

Assistant Consultant

Ella joined INDECS as an Assistant Consultant, providing support and advice to clients across a range of energy sectors. Her work includes assisting with claims preparation, analysis and insurance consultancy, with a focus on research, data interpretation and stakeholder engagement.

She graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Master’s degree in International Security and Terrorism and a BA in Politics and International Relations. Before joining INDECS, Ella worked as a Research Assistant, contributing to projects on modern slavery.

She is currently working towards completing the Chartered Insurance Institute’s professional qualifications.

Ewan Totty

Assistant Consultant

Ewan is an Assistant Consultant in the Project Finance team. He graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Economics (with placement). During this time, he developed a passion for developmental and environmental economics.

Ewan has also gained valuable experience working within a financial services firm where he focused on audit and other compliance testing for public sector organisations.

He is currently working towards becoming a member of the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Bright joined INDECS as an Assistant Consultant and provides support to clients across the energy sector, with a particular focus on exploration, production and renewables. His work includes assisting with claims and insurance consultancy, drawing on his technical and analytical background to assess engineering and risk-related matters.

He graduated from London South Bank University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, where he studied modules including Offshore Operations and Cost and Risk Analysis.

Bright is currently working towards completing the Chartered Insurance Institute’s professional qualifications.
