CLAIMS MANAGEMENT
Gryphon FPSO – Maersk Oil & Gas
On 4th February 2011, the Gryphon FPSO located in the North Sea was driven off location during severe storms. The Operator implemented an emergency response plan, with full stabilisation, inspection and removal for repairs taking some 5 months to plan and implement.
Damage was substantial to the vessel and subsea equipment, requiring extensive repairs which took over 2 years to complete.
An insurance claim for the field partners involving multi heads of claim was made (including Property Damage , Sue & Labour, Removal of Wreck, Evacuation of Personnel, Pollution Mitigation, Loss of Production Income, Property Stabilisation and Preservation).
INDECS was appointed immediately after the incident by both field partners to manage all the insurance claims. The remit was to be the sole point of contact with the Loss Adjuster in all matters, co-ordinate work-scopes for third party experts and to achieve regular payments on account throughout the repair programme.
We provided support on all aspects of the claim, including calculation of the LOPI loss, strategy, management and coverage advice.
We worked in an integrated team to manage the claim, with personnel drawn from our client covering multiple disciplines – project manager, finance, legal, engineering and insurance.
The team worked on the claim for 2 years 4 months, with settlement achieved with insurers 6 weeks prior to re-start of operations. The total insured loss was approximately USD1 billion.
“In the period from February 2011 and until July 2013 Maersk has worked with INDECS to resolve the Gryphon claim. INDECS has acted very professionally and worked with us to keep the claim on track and reach a settlement with our Insurers. The advice and guidance received from INDECS has been timely and thoroughly prepared.”
